The Office for Fair Access (OFFA) have launched their new topic briefing on care leavers, and have reaffirmed that care leavers are a priority group for the Government and OFFA.
The briefing gives an overview of the current challenges and evidence around access, success and progression for care leavers. It also highlights best practice examples of how universities and colleges are working to support care leavers. Within the briefing they suggest that institutions should consider including, in the support to offer to care leavers, all students who have been in care at some point in their lives and not just those who meet the legal definition of a care leaver. Additionally they suggest that Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, and estranged students should also receive the same support.
