Children & Young People Now magazine reports that planned trials to assess the mental health of children entering the care system have been delayed.
The magazine reports that the Department for Education have confirmed that the pilots announced in November 2016 have been put on hold.
“The DfE has attributed the situation to the snap general election and the forthcoming purdah period, whereby government departments must not undertake any activity that could call into question their political impartiality, but has declined to comment further.”
The plans which are due to be piloted are for children to receive mental health checks, in addition to the health checks they currently receive, when they enter the care system.
